[VCD] The Bodyguard 2 (2007)

Every Secret Agent Has His Day

I actually wanted to hunt down the first Bodyguard movie by Thai writer-director-actor-comedian Petchtai Wonkamiao, whom many of you would know he's a regular in the many Tony Jaa movies. However, there wasn't a need to do so as I discovered that this follow up movie is actually a prequel, so all's fine and dandy.

I still reckon that Thai action movies (or at least those I've seen to date) resemble productions from Hong Kong in the late 70s and 80s, in that the formula always includes comedy, cartoony action (guns that never run out of bullets, poor marksmanship of the villains, warehouse settings with plenty of empty crates and boxes to crash into, etc) and the preference for fisticuffs to guns when the "boss" for that scene appears. But thanks to Wonkamiao's slapstick wit (some insanely funny dialogue there) and numerous spoofs (the John Woo one being my favourite), this breezy movie turned out to be light entertainment for a rainy weekend stuck at home.
