AKIRA KUROSAWA

21 films. 13 Days. The largest ever retrospective of his works in Singapore.

While most of his films are readily available on DVD/Blu-Ray and on superb Criterion editions as well, I guess for the cinephile out there you'll lap up the chance to experience the films in 35mm format on a big screen. From 18th to 30th April, The Japan Foundation, Embassy of Japan (JCC), Singapore Film Society and Japanese Association Singapore will present a select 21 films from Akira Kurosawa's rich filmography at the National Museum of Singapore's Gallery Theatre.

Admission is FREE.

Yes you read that right. As an appreciation to the people of Singapore for their kind support and generosity after the devastation caused by the Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, this event will kick-off a series of initiatives to cheer up Japan. On behalf of the people of Japan, the organisers welcome everyone to this event and hope they too will enjoy and discover Japan's most famous director and one of the world's most influential filmmakers.

Mark the dates down on your calendar, and visit the Festival webpage for details of the films and schedule.

You can also get the word round through Facebook and Twitter.

You will not want to miss this rare opportunity. See you there!

P.S. DONATIONS - members of the public who wish to contribute to the recovery and relief efforts for those affected by the recent earthquake and Tsunami may do so at the collection tin to be placed at the venue. This collection will be facilitated by the Japanese Association of Singapore and the Singapore Red Cross.
